Flu bug from Hell.

It is quite rare that I get sick, let alone sick enough to go to the ER. When I do get sick, evidently, I don't muck around.

Let me preface all this with saying that Tami was an absolute angel the whole time. If it weren't for her, I'd probably be much worse off.

Last night around 8, I start shooting fluids out of nearly every orifice in my body. At first I thought it was bad pancakes or a bad burrito I had at lunch, but after 5 hours of dry-heaving, chills, and being unable to keep water down, Tami convinced me to go to Moses Cone ER. This was at 1:45am. I had lost about 11lbs, had a grey pallor about me, slight temperature, and could barely speak for fear of projectile vomiting onto someone.

The tech who took my information said I had came at the right time, since the night staff was in and a doctor was already on call. Evidently, it was a slammed night for them. I guess normally one would go in, give their information, and wait a long time before being seen.

In about 10 minutes, I was in a room, given my information and symptoms AGAIN, puked into a pink container, and had been put on a NaCl I.V. After being dehydrated for so long, that I.V. drip felt like absolution for a long-held sin. There were some pain medication and anti-diarrhetics as well, but me and that I.V., that was something special.

3/4's of the way through the first bag and I felt well enough to start downing water. Six cups later and they take me off the I.V. and discharged me at about 5:30am. We went home and was able to get an hour or two of sleep before I start to start hydrating again. I'm still downing fluids and beating back a 101 temperature, but I'm confident that I'll snap this within 24 hours.

I've got the 48 hour film festival this weekend.
