Carolina Phoenix Defeats Detroit Predators 36-0
The place, Franklin High School, home of the Patriots. The game, a rematch. The Carolina Phoenix, were looking for another win, the Detroit Predators, wanted to even the score. That was the way things were as I walked across the turf field headed for my place in the booth. This time I reached down and touched the turf with my own hands. Turf looks amazingly like grass, even up close. The storms of earlier in the day, have passed and only occasional sprinkles would fall during the game. The Phoenix brought 15 players, and the Predators fielded 20.
First action of the day, 1:13 into the first quarter, 2nd play of the game, Phoenix breaks out for a 55 yard touchdown run. 8:36 into the first, they do it again from 3rd and 10, they complete a pass the touchdown is theirs, score in the first quarter 12-0 Phoenix.
In the 2nd quarter, a 70 yard touchdown by the Phoenix makes the score 18-0. Later an interception by the Phoenix gets them 47 yards, but there is a flag on the play against the Phoenix. The team taketh, but the referee taketh away. The Phoenix keep the ball but have to start back from the previous line of scrimmage. At the half the score remains 18-0.
Second half, 3:02 has elapsed and the Phoenix make the score 24-0 after a long bomb, that left the dropped every jaw in the stands.
Later, the Phoenix have the ball on the 10, and they fumble it. So did everyone else, I am pretty sure that no less than five players from both teams had their hands on the ball and no one could seem to hold on to it. The ball pretty much had to stop rolling on its own, before a Predator could take possession.
Soon enough, the ball makes its way near the Carolina end zone again, only this time its Detroit's ball and they have to punt, again with the slick ball, and lots of hands trying to pick it up. This time it was the Phoenix that got its hands on it, and they ran with it, making the score 30-0, with only 37 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.
In the fourth quarter 1:31 has elapsed on the clock, Carolina lands themselves an interception and goes 40 yards to score another touchdown, the score 36-0 Carolina and that's how the game ended.
Many thanks to the Detroit Predators for being such outstanding host, and showing the Phoenix a good time after the game at Mason's. It really was the best cheeseburger in Detroit.
Stay tuned, Carolina is traveling to Delaware next week to meet the Griffins. Sadly, I won't have your highlight report, but I will let you know the score as soon as I find out myself.
