The Grapes, the Bamboo, and the Yellow Jackets?!?

The weather today was perfect.  I cannot imagine better weather conditions.  A few stray clouds floated by on the breeze, and it was not cool enough for me to wear long sleeves, but I only broke a sweat around noon when I was ripping the wild muscadine vines out of the bamboo.

My initial goal today was to plant the shrubberies.  I have quite a collection of shrubberies-needing-planting now: butterfly bush, ume (tree, not shrub), and the other tea bush.

I plunked the ume into the ground, then decided that I want to put the tea bush near it.  Unfortunately the precise location I wanted to put it is near the chain link fence that was overshadowed by muscadine-infested bamboo. So I decided to solve that problem.

I got a little carried away.  I ripped and yanked and chopped and snipped away at vines and bamboo stalks for hours.  There are piles of vine and bamboo in the yard now.  I left the piles right where they are because when my husband came out to look, he noted that I had disturbed a yellow jacket nest somewhere along the way, and they were all milling around the stacks of vines and bamboo. So I decided to come back to that tomorrow. Eek.  I'm amazed and grateful that I didn't get stung!

I recently learned how to make baskets out of vines, so I'm collecting the muscadine vines for basketry. My husband is going to try making tej (honey wine) from the grapes.

Woohoo, yay Fall! :D

I also weeded the front herb garden a bit and noted that tulsi is growing through the cracks in the sidewalk. Wow. Tulsi is hard core. :P

Apple now shiny blue gloves free has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

I consider something really special in this site.

Awesome blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your theme. With thanks

When in doubt, tell the truth.

Thanks for taking this opportunity to discuss this, I feel fervently about this and I like learning about this subject. If possible, as you gain information, please update this blog with more information. I have found it really useful.

Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very internet savvy so I'm not 100% certain. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Appreciate it

Whats up this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hiya, I am really glad I have found this information. Today bloggers publish just about gossips and web and this is really irritating. A good site with interesting content, this is what I need. Thanks for keeping this website, I'll be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Can not find it.

Does your race affect your use of federal highways? Is there a separate tax rate table depending upon whether your ancestors came from Europe or Africa? I think not. Counting heads can be accomplished by individual cities & towns and accumulated stats can thens be reported at a state level.

Tom,
You may call 1-866-872-6868 and provide your information over the phone through July 30. Note that this summer, we will visit addresses that were added to our address list too late to receive a form, so it is possible you may still be visited by a census taker.

People really ought to be more careful... Please look both ways, walk your bike across the street, and don't be in a rush. If it makes the difference between breaking traffic laws or not, leave 5 minutes earlier.

The three problems I see with this approach.
1) Not all AT supports ARIA yet
2) These days aren't grouped in any logical way which allows for improved comprehension
3) It's not clear it's been tested at all with Assistive Technology. Just because it should work (logically) doesn't mean that it does in practice.

I misplaced my form so am unable to get it sent in. Is there a way to get a new form?

Dear Bill,
I hear what you are saying and I know exactly how you feel. As a federal employee, I go through the same process in making passwords for my computer login and my internet login. I, too, get frustrated with the complexity and the requirements of the password. As you know, AESDirect is a program funded by the Commerce Department and as a result, it must adhere to the same Commerce Security Policy as any other program. I know that may sound ridiculous to you, a one man exporter, but that's just the name of the game.
The security level for your password and account is law and is here to stay. I can help you alleviate your frustration by easing the process of creating passwords. For example, think of a phrase that's memorable, then take out all the vowels, add in some numbers, and top if off with a special character.
You are right, we aren't guarding missiles, but we are guarding Personal Identifiable Information which is something the Census Bureau takes very seriously.

Hello, sorry for my English,
I'm starting to program in RA and found your site by accident. Receientemente'm trying to create interactivity between the 3D object and the user, once and loaded in the webcam.
Can you help with some examples? The truth is that I stuck on this one weeks and do not know what to do.
Thanks and encouragement.

When the Founding Fathers declared that ALL inhabitants of our country need to be counted in the census, I believe it was their assumption that everyone coming here to live, came legally and became a citizen. Therefore, each citizen deserved the right to be represented and treated accordingly. To apply this Constitutional mandate to illegal immigrants is wrong these lawbreakers should not have the same rights assured to the legal citizens of the United States. (I think this interpretation encourages cities and states to look the other way instead of enforcing the laws against illegal immigration that way they have more "inhabitants" to count and get more government money and another representative in Congress!)

I was teaching in NYC that day. We were dismissed and told to go home. I remember walking over the Queens Borough Bridge with two colleagues and constantly looking over my right shoulder and seeing the flumes of smoke. My eyes understood what I was seeing but my heart was in disbelief. As we were walking on Queens Boulevard, we met a man from the NY Port Authority. He was covered from head to toe in fine white soot. He mentioned that after the first plane attacked, he immediately left the North Tower. As he was going down the stairs (40 flights), the firemen were walking up. He kept saying over and over "They are all gone." We learned early what a price the NY Fire Department would pay for their dedication to public service.I also remember the kindness of the business owners on the Boulevard-who handed out water and food to the thousands of walkers like ourselves as we passed by. From a human tragedy, there was also human kindness from strangers. My son was five at the time, and I realized that this was the event that would shape his generation as JFK's assassination did mine. I hope that the memory of what can happen when we let our guard down stays with our country's consciousness and that we do not become complacent.

Any chance of a Mac version coming out? My kiddos would LOVE to play with this as they are familiar with Scratch and enjoy it so!

In your spirit of "tell it like it is," tell me why the Census Bureau guarantees the confidentiality of its data when the decision lies with Congress? Congress can nullify census confidentiality anytime it wants by changing the law. It did so during World War II in order to help round up Japanese-Americans, and the Census Bureau dutifully served up information on specific households. Why couldn't this happen to Arab-Americans if there's another 9/11?

The reinterview idea seems like a good one. You have to have tried tracing your ancestry to understand the importance of getting yourself counted in the Census every ten years, whatever you have to do. Hopefully, you are fortunate enough to have had ancestors who participated in their Census, so that you are able to research your family tree effectively. Otherwise, your job will be more difficult. Think of your descendants and how they may in the future attempt to research your family tree.

One of the biggest problems people faced was finding suitable drinking water. Having a microfilter water purifier is a must for your emergency preparedness. They're relatively inexpensive now and very effective.

Congratulations on your progress!
If it would be helpful for next years canoe construction, we would like to donate a stucco sprayer and Spiderlath mesh. Who should I contact about this?

Thanks for checking in, Jenny! I'm sure you are all very excited about how close in days the World Cup really is!

I applied by October 15th. I applied to the College of Design. I realize that they dont have an early decision part to their application. But if it states that I am under design review right now. Is there any way to find out earlier than March?

"Petal to the medal"? As I understand it[1], in contemporary American pronunciation, "pedal", "petal," and "peddle" are homonyms, as are "medal", "mettle", "metal", and "meddle." So this is a purely written eggcorn.

Good job.... After all these years, I finally know what goes down during your 9-5.

It's interesting - I would have accepted the cyclical hypothesis, simply based on the number of babies and young children I know or hear about that seem to have names that sound old-fashioned to me. I guess we just trust our interpretation of our personal experience more than we maybe should!

Molly thanks for your post.
That is a depressing subject for me right now! I graduated with all ambition of getting my Master's. Cal doesn't offer a Master's Degree in Creative Writing, so we visited another university a few weeks ago. It was a bust and not what I wanted at all. Therefore, I don't know what to do. I still really want to get my Master's, but if I can't, I am considering going back to Cal for a second degree or just start looking for a job. I can't say what I want to do right now because my dream has been crushed.

I truly enjoy reading on this site, it has got good blog posts.

Interesting but was 2007 "doubled-up percentage" typical or unusually low because of the housing boom? It would be nice to know what the long term trend has been as this may be give us a clue if this represents hope for the housing market.

Bernie makes some solid points. I am glad he agrees with ACCE and the other organizations about the pitfalls of stamp lending (and borrowing). When the chambers that have lent out their stamps get them back, that's Job 1 of the process of improving certificate of origin handling. Job 2 will be to do the job right. Some chambers are doing a good job, but many need training, which is why our organization is preparing training materials. Once there's better quality in certificate of origin handling, there will be an appreciable value-add to the trading system.

Let me continue to say that I don't know anyone that did get counted, at least no one talked about it around me. And there's discussion of taking away a PA representative seat in the House based on these numbers? Heck no, get the count right first.

tHIS WAT I WAS IN NEED OF IT. THANK YOU DESIGNER OF THIS SITE.

Question for the Atlanta RCC, is the 2923 LCO having a shake-up?? We had to stop all our work in the field yesterday and turn-in all the AA Binders and EQ's, even cases that weren't finished!!! I'm concerned, any info from upper management would help understand what's going on.

I'm working at a young arboretum and while we feel like we have BG-Base under control and even have the beginning of a herbarium, we are struggling to get mapping done. Really what we need is another employee an employee who could take this course and would be willing to learn more. If only the Delaware Center for Public Horticulture was closer. Good work.

That is fantastic. Thanks for the link. A great idea for a book!

Great you saw the Welchwitzia miriablis was it in flower?
Reports make me want to visit SA again.
I'm sure you'll enjoy rest of trip

Thanks for this post, I am a big big fan of this web site would like to continue updated.

These kind of post are always inspiring and I prefer to read quality content so I happy to find many good point here in the post writing is simply great thank you for the post

Thank God I found this discussion. I was so angry at Ms Acocella that I had started to write my very own letter to the editor. I'm very relieved to learn that better minds (and pens) than mine have undertaken this rebuttal. I hate how any twit who speaks a language automatically considers themselves a linguist (I love the gender neutral plural btw, and have not shied away from teaching it as tomorrow's standard English to my ESL students)...

In addition to all the goals you have for 2010 I think its best if you could also give a lot of fun activities for the alumni to meet some of their classmates before. I know that you always have the alumni homecoming but aside from that there should also be other activities to encourage others to join and take part on this.

Scariest game i've ever played. I'm on my second playthrough and the game still happened to catch me off guard.

Sir,
I don't know if this applies to my case, but I would like to describe the following situation:
1. My family responded to the census mailing.
2. Nonetheless, a census worker came by the house and interviewed my wife.
3. Following that, we began receiving computer generated messages requesting a census worker interview.
4. I sent an email to both the Census Bureau as well as the Boston Regional Office on June 22 complaining about the constant computer generated voicemails. No response.
5. I have since sent two more emails with zero response.
I am extraordinarily disappointed at the obvious waste, fraud, and abuse displayed by the U.S. Census Bureau in the conduct of the 2010 Census.
Understanding the need for a census, I simply do not understand a procedure where one fills out and returns a form via USPS; and then is visited by a census worker yet assigns a case number and requests additional follow-up meetings. I consider repeated calls by a computer generated message to be a form of harassment. All this for 10 questions! This complete inefficiency explains why it costs $6 billion dollars of my tax money for this household of 4. Additionally, in my email I invited the Census Bureau to contact me again via USPS. I will gladly return a response if provided an envelope with prepaid postage. No response.
This might explain some pushback that the Census Bureau is receiving.

There is an export liscence needed for such a disaster? They need food they need tools why make it hard to give it to them.

Rosanna,
For the most part, I like the AES Direct system and applaud the paperless efforts of everyone. However, there have been some quirks using the system that I have experienced since the beginning. In order to have more control over compliance for my company, I try to complete the AES before the shipment ever leaves my dock. However, there are things that are out of my control like Departure date, port of Export or unlading, that I have no clue what the carrier is going to use for these fields. Sure, I can have the carrier file the AES on my behalf, but then I lose control and have no idea if a fatal error or other problem exists. There have also been times when I use a certain HTS number (that I know is still current because I check my numbers frequently all year) and the database comes back as an invalid number. Other than that, I think the changes that have been made to the program over the last couple of years have improved (like who thought of a search field where you type in a question mark and hit the tab key). Keep making positive changes and making it more user friendly and I bet there will be less compliance issues. I want to be in compliance and the easier it is, the better I will be. (I bet others as well).
Thanks

The end of the year is purchasing power it is confirmed.
