Plants in the Snow

The beautyberry looked a lot cooler in person - the color is dulled out in these pictures.

I don't think that sitting under 4 inches of snow is particularly good for plants.

But the taisai (bok choi) looks unfazed.

The chrysanthemum greens look a little battered and brown around the edges, but the garlic seems happy.  I had to gently ease the garlic leaves through holes in the crust of ice that formed around them.

I really wish I had thought to rescue the plants from the snow in the morning rather than the afternoon.  I hope they all make it!

Hi Patty. I just tested out the invite system, and you are ideal, Pinterest is starting to limit its users to only those who have an account with either Facebook or Twitter. It seems that Pinterest is encouraging people to sign up this way to better connect them with other users in their social network. I'm so sorry about this inconvenient snag! If you do still want to participate, I recommend setting up a Twitter account.

Hiya. Very nice blog!! Guy .. Excellent .. Wonderful .. I will bookmark your web site and take the feeds also...I am happy to find a lot of helpful information here within the article. Thank you for sharing.

Forms? Who needs forms when we have facebook connect

Terrific add Matt. Funny enough almost included that stat. It underscores that these are guides only. You should identify who you might be after and what their schedule is. For instance, I've had excellent 40-50% email open rates sending Sunday night for the sports resort customer because we recognized many were personal emails and were more probably to be inside a sporty frame-of-mind on the weekend. Established the benchmark using the standards above. Next one tried Sunday. Worked.

I'm not sure why but this website is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a problem on my end? I'll check back later and see if the problem still exists.

Best perform you have finished, this great site is de facto cool with wonderful information and facts. Time is God's strategy for holding every little thing from happening simultaneously.

When you fix a difficulty for example the laptop or computer sets a code while in the system and you will need to have a scan software to remove the code that will connect to OBD II. You would very clear the code and your light should go off.

How can I find who publish links from my blog posts to facebook?

I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was great. I don't know who you are but definitely you're going to a famous blogger if you are not already ;) Cheers!

Well said and reasoned Jack. I'll join you in accomplishing everything I can to reverse the tide-for my kids and grandkids.

In science the credit goes to the man who convinces the world, not the man to whom the idea first occurs.

Im really happy for the post.Very many thanks again. Will read on...

Thank you, I have recently been seeking for info about this subject for ages and yours is the best I've found so far.

Well, actually, a lot of what you write is not quite true !... well, okay, it does not matter:D

What explains the substantial gap opening up around 1940 between the total number of male and female individuals represented in the data? The first thing that came to my mind was this passage from Freakonomics:

Please clarify if I have items under the same schedule B "D" valued at $1500 and "F" valued at $3000, must they both be reported in the AES record or only the "F" which is valued over $2500?

James,
The idea of producing more timely socioeconomic data with annual surveys is of course wonderful. Who could argue the converse?
The ACS is of course a rolling monthly survey, not the nice, clean point-in-time cross section of data that we had come to depend on from 1790 to 2000. Demographers, economists, policy analysts, and many others depend upon cross sectional data that can be tied to a point-in-time. Our models require this type of data. Beyond this, with the substitution of the ACS for the long form, we now have the "mother of all series breaks" with the gold standard decennial series. And finally, the small area 60-month data is in many cases rendered meaningless, either because of rapid changes during the time span, or because data collected over 60 months does not satisfy the analytical requirements of our research, or because the confidence intervals overwhelm the point estimates, or because most people (other than statisticians) cannot comprehend the meaning of a sample gathered over a five-year duration. [During the design phase, we were told that the ACS would be a 1 in 8 sample, smaller than the 1 in 6 from Census 2000, but reasonable. In reality samples were much smaller. By my calculation our sample in Utah has been 1 in 13.] So the ACS has certainly not replaced the long form.
One result has been a proliferation of commercially produced "synthetic" data sets which use ACS data as a starting point and then apply mechanical techniques to generate the data that is either missing or not statistically significant in the ACS data products. These are not in fact estimates of reality at a small geography, but rather the application of mechanical principles (e.g., IPF) to create (make up) data. Meanwhile, we are really "flying blind" at the census tract level, and in some cases, even larger geography.
My proposal is that we expand the sample sizes of the Current Population Survey so that the data is meaningful for areas with populations of 100,000 or more. This way we get meaningful cross sectional socioeconomic data on an annual basis at least at a state level. (Currently the CPS samples are too small to generate meaningful results for small states like Utah.) Eliminate the ACS and bring back the long form for 2020.
I am serious.

Are there any 2010 Census Blocks, which contain both water and land (or is each Block water-only or land-only)?

I think college students should be counted in the cenus, considering they are a large part of the population. I think the the way that both Boston and Ohio are trying to improve and increase the number of college kids counted are good ideas. Although I feel that Ohio's plan will be more successful many college students dont know when the census is or wont remember even if they do so by emailing them it will remind them it will only take a short time to do. I was confused about why the parents can not include college students in their census for the house instead the college students must do it from the residence of the school?

In the pre-dubbyadubbyadubbya era, blogs were current affairs documentaries, and the comments sections were purple-faced people like my pa, dissenting vocally with Dimbleby and Day, while my long-suffering mother - listening from the kitchen - proffed the sage advice: "You know where the off switch is, dear".

I applied by October 15th. I applied to the College of Design. I realize that they dont have an early decision part to their application. But if it states that I am under design review right now. Is there any way to find out earlier than March?

For what kinds of "statistical purposes" are names and birthdates NECESSARY??
How does having names and birthdates POSSIBLY "...help each community get its fair share of government funds..." OR "...benefit the community"??

Do I need to add images to a Picasa album before using vSlider?

Jennifer,
To be consistent in counting every resident of the United States, the correct place to count people is where they usually live and sleep. The concept of "usual residence," which is defined as the place where the person lives and sleeps most of the time stems from the first Census Act of 1790 and has been adhered to in all subsequent censuses. It is a guiding principle for the 2010 Census as well.

It was to be my first time as a juror and I arrived at the Courthouse in Mineola early on September 11, 2001. All the jurors were seated on the second floor overlooking the long walkway leading to the entrance, including one man with a small transistor radio. We were all engrossed in our thoughts, newspapers, and books when the man with the radio stated that a plane had crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center, where he worked for Port Authority. I remember hoping it wasn't another terrorist attack like back in 1993. Apparently others thought the same thing as we each flashed looks at one another. No sooner we settled back into whatever we were doing when the man with the radio said there had been another hit. I knew. I think we all knew by the time the cell phones started ringing that this was a deliberate attack on our country, our freedom, our futures. I wanted to get out of that building a government building - but stood looking out the huge plate glass window. I watched a very large man in a dark suit carrying a briefcase drop to his knees crying into his cell phone. Others were hugging, running, yelling. Others, not knowing, looked bewilderingly at those who already knew.We were sent home and asked to come back the next day. On Wednesday most of us were back at the courthouse but the case was postponed. The judge asked if any of us was directly affected. The man with the radio stood up to tell us that he had lost all his buddies from Port Authority and how he was spared because he was chosen for jury duty. I don't remember that man's face or his name, but sometimes I pray for him.

What if we don't want to fill out our names and phone numbers? Can we return the census forms and leave those boxes blank?

Please clarify if I have items under the same schedule B "D" valued at $1500 and "F" valued at $3000, must they both be reported in the AES record or only the "F" which is valued over $2500?

Have you tried the latest Ubuntu release? I'm running Karmic right now, trying to get an idea if I should be upgrading.
