Cukes!

I've picked two cucumbers so far.  Here's a picture of the first one:
Cuke.jpg
There are lots of little baby cucumbers that are a few inches long now. Yay!

The squash are not doing so well.  The plants seem happy, and they're blooming, but they're not setting fruit. I inspected them all this morning and I found one (a zucchini?) that actually has a little fruit attached to the blossom. Hmm.  I had the same problem last year with the zucchini, but not the squash. I have no idea what the deal is.

The Black Cherry cherry tomato has little green tomatoes!  The German Pink is blooming, but I haven't seen any signs of tomatoes yet.

Some of the peppers are starting to bloom. The plants are still tiny, but they're blooming anyway. Well, you rock on then, little plant dudes. :P

The snow peas shrivelled up in the heat.  I wonder if I can plant snapped beans in their place? Hrm ...

The butterbeans are climbing away, and the edamame looks exactly like "field peas" - the soybeans that my grandparents grew as a commodity crop. I should've predicted that, I guess. :P

The chard ... I think I'm about done with chard.  Out of a row that's about 8 feet long, I have like four scraggly little chards that are not  growing despite the copious amount of rain that has fallen on them. Turds.

But in their defense, I think I have a dirt problem.  All of my soil that's in the raised beds this year was imported.  There's mulch mixed into it.  I suspect that the decomposing mulch may be competing with the plants for nitrogen. I read about that somewhere.  And if that's not the problem, all of the beds need more compost, anyway.  I can't do anything about that until the fall.  Oh well.  Things are growing, obviously, just not as much as I'd expect.

And the landscaping fabric has issues.  The main issue being that it is light permeable.  So grass sprouted under it.  As the grass grows, it pushes up on the fabric, which pops over the heads of some of the smaller veggies and shades them out.  I have to keep pushing the fabric down and easing leaves back through the holes so that the little dudes can get some sun.  I guess if I had put mulch on top of the fabric, this would not have happened.  But that seemed like overkill at the time, and I thought the mulch would slide right off of the fabric. (I still do, actually.)  So next year I've got to think up a different weed-control measure.

Hi there! I'm at work browsing your blog from my new iphone! Just wanted to say I love reading your blog and look forward to all your posts! Carry on the outstanding work!

I do not know whether it's just me or if everybody else experiencing issues with your website. It appears as if some of the written text on your posts are running off the screen. Can someone else please provide feedback and let me know if this is happening to them too? This may be a problem with my web browser because I've had this happen before. Many thanks

Really needed to emphasize I'm thrilled I came on the site!|

Really like this content. Do you share this info on facebook?

What a lovely day for a 107177! SCK was here

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.

The Zune cute blue mittens free concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Hey there! Someone in my Myspace group shared this website with us so I came to take a look. I'm definitely loving the information. I'm bookmarking and will be tweeting this to my followers! Great blog and great design and style.

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very internet savvy so I'm not 100% certain. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I really enjoy reading your blog posts. Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that cover the same subjects? Many thanks!

It’s hard to find knowledgeable people on this topic, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks

There is definately a great deal to know about this topic. I really like all of the points you have made.

Assuming that the total number of births per year should be steadily increasing, even at steeper slopes from year to year, how do you explain the erraticness of the total-name count over the years? A very unpredictable "long tail" of under-5-count names?

Aneesh was not involved in this project; the students who were are either no longer working with the lab, or have moved on to other things. We posted this as a service to the community, to allow people to get started, but we have no people or resources to provide support. I'm sorry, and good luck.

Just wanted to say this is a job well done. I think it will be a lot better than the previous blog we had.

Tom, your comments are normally worth looking at. I like and consent together with your analogy much much more than I do the authors. Thanks for keeping it simple.

Sandy H,
Federal state and local governments need data about age to interpret most social and economic characteristic such as forecasting the number of people eligible for social security and Medicare. The data is also widely used for planning and evaluating government policies and programs that provide funding and services for children, working age adults, women of childbearing age or the older population.

Greg: As an Evergreen developer at an academic institution, I'm always interested in helping others play (or work!) with Evergreen particularly places that have "a strong development team committed to Open Source development"! I can't promise a formal partnership that would be up to our administration but I'll certainly help out if you show up on the Evergreen lists or #evergreen IRC channel. Building robust PHP/Evergreen integration (with an eye towards VuFind drivers and Drupal support) is on my (lengthy) to-do list, so I think we have some natural intersection points for our efforts.

You can be unhappy about it, but you have no right to be angry about it

My parents were born in Ireland and became nationalized citizens of the U.S. My skin color is white, I am fair-haired and have light blue-green eyes. My color is therefore white, my ethnic origin is Irish, and I am a citizen of the U.S. by birth. I also agree with the comment on disability, since this is an issue not associated with "race." As an anthropologist, I also agree with the comments that the AAA did away with the entire concept of "race." If ethnic origin is the real issue, then allow all respondents the opportunity to indicate the countries of their origins. My parents never considered themselves "Irish-American," but would state that they were born in Ireland and were citizens of the U.S.

Pretty decent blog post write-up. Awesome.

You may have not intended to do so, but I believe you've managed to express the state of mind that a lot of individuals are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or wherever, is one thing a lot of us are going through.

Textbook publishers seem to release new editions more often than ever before. Services like Bookrenter or Chegg are saving students hundreds of dollars because they don't have to worry about not being able to sell back their textbooks at the end of the semester.

Hi Brittany thanks for your questions I answered the following question: Would you think that collaborating with an artist to create artwork that coincides with your writing would be something that you would enjoy?I actually did this in a class one time! I can't remember which class it was, but the professor got pictures from a local museum. Then the students had to pick a picture and write a poem about it. I remember mine was of a sad, poor-looking girl, and I wrote about what I thought she was feeling. I enjoyed it because I could look at the picture and use my skills to write about it.

If we limit ourselves only to top-10 female names there are only 2 interesting comebacks Elizabeth and Emma. Elizabeth was popular until mid-1920 and then in 80s and 90s. Emma was not very popular from 1890s to 2000s, but in top-10 before and after.

Pedantically: con isn't a Latin preposition, but the prefix (prefissile?) form of cum. A large number of prefixed verbs govern the dative in some way, regardless of the prefix.

The 2010 Census Data Release schedule does not indicate when the mail return rates will be reported. It should. Our Complete Count Committee was surprised by the mail participation rates in areas in and adjacent to our military bases. We're waiting to see if the return rates differ "substantially" from the participation rates and reviewing these data with our base commanders. It may suggest a problem in confusion over where to report, a surprising number of vacant housing units, or something else. In any case, our After Action Report is eagerly awaiting this information. We know the Bureau doesn't expect much difference between these two rates, given what USPS was asked to do in 2010. We'll see.

There are hundreds of Census workers who are part of Census Coverage Measurement who are still working to audit the statistical validity of the Census. This statement is very fallacious.

How far back would we have to go to find a (fictional) equivalent complaint along the lines of "Nobody uses 'hath' as one should anymore"? I mean, there must have been similar feelings about losing the -(e)th ending, or substituting the Viking 'they/them' for the indigenous Anglo-Saxon words...

Pipped at the post in a photo finish. Congratulations Mr Breen! :-)

wow..its a really fantastic and awesome font, its can be very use full for to make my design.

Hispanics are not a race but are in the process of becoming one, even if properly "multiracial". There are white, native and black Hispanics but the overwhelming majority are Multiracial. During the last 3,000 years Indo-Europeans and Veddas from India had a similar process of amalgamation and assimilation as the one taking place in most of Latinamerica. Hindi is an Indo-European language and Northern Indians are the result of the Aryan-Veddan mixture. Hispanics who answer "Some Other race" are Multiracial like the Indians from India, speaking both an Indo-European language.

There are no bonuses awarded for finishing faster. I don't even know where you think that, that is not the way of the Census.

Lee, It is possible that we have an unrecognized duplicate in our master address file that has caused you to receive a duplicate form. As part of the census process, we look for these situations and ensure we eventually delete the duplicate record. It is also possible, though we had quality control procedures on all the printing and labeling efforts, that the vendor accidentally printed two forms for the same address. Unfortunately, no quality control process can ensure zero errors. Thank you for filling out the form for the address you normally use for your mail, and mailing it back. You can discard the second form. Because we have to account for each form we mail out, a census taker might come to your home between May and July to find out why the second form was not mailed back. At that time you can tell the census taker that you received two forms and were told to mail one back and discard the other one.

Very good written article. It will be beneficial to anybody who utilizes it, including me. Keep up the good work looking forward to more posts.
