It's been raining. A lot. It rained yesterday, and it's rained nearly all evening today. Yesterday I noticed that most of the mulch had been washed right out of the front flower bed. (We really need to put gutters on the front porch to keep the water from collecting in that flower bed, which is right under the edge of the porch!)
It's supposed to rain all weekend, too. Argh. Don't get me wrong - until yesterday I was starting to get concerned about the lack of rain. But this is an awful lot of rain.
I need to get a rain gauge. I keep thinking that, and I keep not getting one! :P
The rain is preventing me from planting the last set of seedlings I bought at the farmer's market - the parsley, the dill, the zucchini, and the marigolds. They're not holding up too well in those black plastic six-packs, either. *chews on fingernails*
Hopefully the little squash are benefiting from all the water. And the little carrot seedlings. And the tomatoes. We've got to make tomato cages sooner rather than later, because I'm sure their growth will be astounding after all the rain. :)

This has become liberalism's standard reaction to terrorism: what did we do to MAKE them do this? It's co-dependent thinking, like the pathetic strategy of your child of an alcoholic to gain control of her chaotic earth. But co-dependency writ large is no basis for just a foreign policy. We really need to get sane, sober grownups back again in charge.

We haven't gotten our hands on any SnapDragon systems yet, but there are a lot of other modern things we could port too as well (including the new Nokias coming out, the Tegra, the iPhone, etc). It's going to be interesting to see how these sorts of games feel on these more powerful platforms.

I still think about how much money was spent on commercials during the transition to digital TV. I am wondering how that money could have been better spent. Yes, we need to reach people about the importance of the census and kudos because everyone is talking about whether your add was worthwhile so as I sit here an write this maybe what you did worked. It certainly increased awareness.
I went back to college at age 43. Fear and motivation were two of my main driving forces. I managed to get through it intact and discovered my academic rebirth along the way. I amazed myself, completing two years of undergraduate work and two years of graduate work with a 4.0 gpa. Incredible how being older, more mature contributed to this success. I was no longer distractable from my goal to get those degrees. I encourage anyone hesitating due to their advanced age from going back to school to challenge your fears and give it a shot. Did me a world of good.

I'm not sure if this is what Nick meant by "dual audience", but there is also the issue that normal blog comments can comment on each other, not just on the original posting, and thus allow a genuine discussion to occur. The return to a "letters to the editor" type feedback system removes this, which seems a great step backwards.

My mom just showed me this announcement about your peace conference. My sister presented at this conference when she attended Notre Dame. I would love to attend and learn from others, as well as give a short presentation about an after-school Peace Camp program that I am organizing and directing in February for 85 elementary school students and with the help of 55 high school students who will serve as counselors. The activities and songs are based on the Pledge of Non-violence. Please let me know if this is possible.

You didn't mention "white" rice or "white" potatoes. Many think brown rice (whole grain) is better and perhaps sweet potatoes sometimes rather than white
